INVITATION AND VENUE FOR NDC 2009
The conference is held every two years
and alternates among the Nordic countries. The NDC 2009 is locally
organized by the University of Iceland (http://www.hi.is/id/1002800/)
and the research institute Matis (http://www.matis.is/english/about/)
located in the city of Reykjavik on June 17 to 19, 2009. We are pleased
to invite you to participate in this NDC 2009 and enjoy the exciting
city Reykjavik and Iceland’s unique landscape and special geological
formations. Reykjavík can be easily reached from the main cities of
Scandinavia and large cities worldwide. The University of Iceland is a
progressive educational and scientific institution known by its global
scientific community and research. It is a state university, situated in
the heart of Reykjavík. This is a modern institution offering
opportunities for study and research in almost 300 programs in field of
Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Humanities, Sciences and Engineering.
Some of the resources available at the university are uniquely
Icelandic. These include the manuscripts preserved in the Árni Magnússon
Institute, Icelandic census records dating from 1703, exceptionally
complete genealogical data and climatological, glaciological, seismic
and geothermal records. The university has also an international leading
role in renewable energy and environmental research. Iceland is not only
closer than you think but far different than you ever imagined. You can
see marvels from Mother Nature such as the tremendous icecap, glaciers,
spouting geysers, volcanoes (hopefully dormant), rivers and magnificent
waterfalls, a multitude of birds and whales just offshore. Summers are
surprisingly warmer you might expect and when you visit, be sure about
the hospitality of Icelanders and their desire to share their culture
and to make your stay as pleasant as possible. See the official Iceland
